Hampden 24-Hour Release Source
The Hampden County Sheriff’s Office does not provide a public roster, a “released” filter, or a page naming people released today. It also has no published online cadence or display-retention period. The official first stop is the HCSO Records Access Officer. Ask for an existing release event, not a custom answer. A narrow request can seek the actual date and time, facility, type or destination code, booking number, and legal case or mittimus reference.
A mittimus is the court document authorizing custody or release in a case. One person can have more than one. That is why an event on a court docket, a bail payment, or the end of one mittimus may not mean the person left all custody. HCSO must check for other warrants, commitments, or holds before the door-exit event occurs.
Check Hampden Releases Today
Start with the last known custodian. The Main Institution, women’s center, recovery and wellness center, and Stonybrook are all HCSO-operated, but their legal roles differ. A county jail discharge, regional women’s release, movement from a step-down site, and civil commitment discharge do not create the same record. Give the records officer the correct facility and enough detail to distinguish one person from another.
- Collect the full name, name variants, birth date or year if lawfully known, booking number, court docket, facility, and likely same-day period.
- Read the controlling case through MassCourts. Most public online criminal matters need the exact docket number, so contact the clerk if a name search fails.
- For a bail matter, review the official Main Institution bail process and check whether another hold remained.
- Email or mail a narrow request to HCSO’s RAO for the existing release-event fields. The office does not accept a public-record request by phone or voicemail.
- If the response says transfer, warrant, DOC, federal, or immigration authority, contact that receiving system. Exit from HCSO is not always release to the community.
For one named person and older corroborating paths, use the Hampden County released-inmate search. Preserve the exact status words and access date. “Not found” is not a release status.
The court and agency dates may differ without either record being wrong. A docket can record the judge’s order, bail action, or disposition before staff complete identity checks, property work, and the review of other legal holds. Ask for the actual HCSO event when the physical exit time matters. If the court action appears under another case, include that docket too. Hampden’s Main Institution holds both pretrial and sentenced people, so the legal basis must be read before deciding whether the event was bail, time served, sentence completion, probation, parole, or a transfer.

There is no live public table to read. These are the fields to request from HCSO’s internal booking and release record. Protected content may be withheld or redacted, and HCSO may use a different label. Keep the agency’s original wording because “release,” “transfer,” and “remain incarcerated” have distinct meanings in Massachusetts data.

Ask for the booking photograph as a separate item if it is needed for identity confirmation. It should not be assumed to accompany a release sheet.
A useful written request can also offer a practical limit: accept the record in electronic form, permit redaction of exempt fields, and ask the RAO to identify any withheld portion. Massachusetts law generally calls for access or a compliant written response within ten business days, but it does not guarantee final production within that time. HCSO may explain an exemption, estimate a fee, seek added time, or identify a different record holder. No HCSO-specific release-record fee is posted, so do not state one in advance.

When Hampden Bail Releases Process
Hampden’s two principal jail locations do not share one universal release clock. The Main Institution publishes a process, not a fixed daily release time. Staff review each bail mittimus and all other legal holds. If electronic monitoring is required, the published procedure says the person may remain held for transport to the next session of the issuing court or Probation, subject to other holds.
The Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center is more specific. Its official bail page lists processing at 4 p.m. on weekdays and at 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekends. Those times apply to bail processing at that center. They are not a schedule for court releases, sentence expiration, transfers, holidays, or every HCSO facility.

Use the stated windows as a planning detail, then confirm the individual release event through HCSO and the originating court.
Note: A bail-processing time is not the same as the time a person physically exits after every required hold review.
Hampden Bail Holds Before Release
HCSO’s local bail procedure is mittimus-specific. Payment resolves the bail set on that document, but another case, warrant, civil commitment, or receiving-agency hold can remain. An Intake Supervisor reviews the record before release. The strongest same-day proof is therefore the HCSO event showing actual time and destination, paired with the court docket or order.
This distinction also controls the words used later. “Released to another criminal justice agency” means HCSO custody ended while another agency may have begun or continued custody. “Remain incarcerated” means one legal status ended but the person stayed at the same agency. Neither should be shortened to “went home.”

Hampden Release Data Quirk
HCSO publishes useful annual research, but the reports are not a same-day list. The HCSO research archive provides aggregate cohorts and release categories without naming each person. In its 2023 report, HCSO folded 14 records coded for time served into “released at court” because that detail did not migrate reliably from the court into HCSO systems.
That documented mismatch matters. It shows why the court docket and sheriff event should be compared rather than forcing one label to answer every question. The state Cross-Tracking system can show Hampden Sheriff counts by agency, period, and release type. It cannot identify who left today.

After a Hampden Same-Day Release
A person released from HCSO to the community may need a practical travel plan. The Main Institution links the PVTA B12 route, but the research could not verify the live PDF’s current stops or times. Confirm the schedule directly with PVTA before relying on it. The local link is a transportation lead, not proof that a person was discharged.
Use the right system for the next status. Massachusetts VINE covers MA DOC, not HCSO. It may help only if state custody is established. A federal transfer belongs in BOP or federal-court records; an immigration handoff requires ICE follow-up. A person still listed by the receiving agency is not free of custody merely because HCSO recorded an exit.
The type of Hampden facility also shapes the meaning. Movement to the Western Massachusetts Recovery and Wellness Center may remain a structured HCSO placement rather than a final discharge. Stonybrook primarily handles a civil Section 35 treatment commitment, so a status change there should be confirmed with the center and committing court under applicable confidentiality rules. At the regional women’s center, the controlling case can come from outside Hampden County. Search the originating court instead of assuming that every Chicopee release belongs in a Hampden docket.
